In a contentious online meeting held at 2 PM today, the Afya Sacco National Forum—a newly established WhatsApp group—gathered approximately 100 members to discuss allegations of financial mismanagement within the organization.
The meeting, hosted by member Thomas Aliwa, was marred by controversy when the Afya Sacco chair joined to address the concerns being raised. Despite her intention to clarify and respond to the accusations, the chair was abruptly removed from the forum by the members.
This move has drawn significant criticism, with members being accused of unfairly silencing the leadership. The chair, who sought to provide transparency and answers, was denied the opportunity to speak, casting doubt on the objectivity of the discussion.
A section of Sacco members argue that the refusal to have the chair address the issues raised has undermined the possibility of a constructive dialogue, creating a one-sided narrative.
It also raised serious questions about the intentions of those raising the allegations and their willingness to engage in a fair and open conversation.
