However, it has not been revealed how much IFAD has given to Counties.
IFAD officials said they are excited to partner with Busia.
They were speaking when they paid a courtesy call to Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong in his office on Tuesday.
Samuel Macharia from IFAD said Busia is in the second cohort of beneficiaries for the funding that will be rolled out by July 2020.
Other counties include Siaya, Kisumu, Kisii, Tharaka Nithi, Embu, Machakos, Kiambu and Kajiado. Kakamega, Homa Bay, Migori, Kirinyaga, Nyeri and Meru who were in the first cohort.
Macharia said the team is in Busia for two days to undertake sensitization meetings on the proposed program that is aimed at supporting youth and women groups in fish production and marketing.
“The funds will play a key role in fingerlings production, incubation and training of farmers in Busia County,” Macharia said.
He added that the first task will be the formation of County Implementation program committee chaired by the Governor or his suitable appointee and the County implementation team headed by county program coordinator versed with fisheries.
Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong said the program once rolled out will boost fish production in the county that is known for producing delicious fish.
Ojaamong added that the establishment of a fish processing plant through IFAD funding will be another milestone for fish traders in terms of value additions.
He assured IFAD team of full co-operation as it embarks on rolling out the program.
