Leaders from Siaya and Kisumu Counties have hailed President Uhuru Kenyatta for appointing Ex MP Ochieng Mbeo the chairperson of the Board of Kenya Fish Marketing Authority.
Mbeo served as an MP in the East African Legislative Assembly between 2001 and 2006.
He is currently the Charman of the Board at Lake View Fisheries Limited.
Lake View Fisheries (LVF) is a privately-owned Company founded in 2013.
It has built Kenya’s first women and youth owned, vertically integrated, sustainable commercial tilapia cage aquaculture operation.
According to its website, its mission is to create a unique multi -faceted development project that will improve the availability of sustainably farmed affordable tilapias in Kenya.
The Firm says this is to ensure there is increased per capita fish consumption, reducing malnutrition, creating rural jobs, transferring skills, improving rural livelihoods and reducing poverty.
In gazette notice number 1920 dated 16th October 2019, President Uhuru Kenyatta appointed Mbeo to chair the Board for three years.
Speaking at a Nairobi Hotel, the leaders led by Ex -Embakasi East MP John Ogutu Omondi said Mbeo will help fish farmers improve their trade.
He asked fish farmers to utilize the Authority.
In its report before the approval of Mbeo, the Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture and Livestock said Mbeo holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in political science and history from the Guilford College, North Carolina, USA.
The committee said he has a master’s degree in international management thunderbird Arizona USA.
“His academic credentials and experience meet the standard required under section 6 (7) of the Public Appointments (Parliamentary Approval) Act number 33 of 2011,” the committee Vice Chair Emmanuel Wangwe said.
He added that during the vetting, Mbeo exhibited knowledge and understanding of the fish sector.
The Committee said Mbeo satisfies the requirements of chapter six.
