The National Irrigation Authority CEO Gitonga Mugambi was among outstanding Kenyans who were awarded by President Uhuru Kenyatta on Jamuhuri Day.
Mugambi was awarded the Second Class: Elder of the Order of the Burning Spear (EBS) by President Uhuru Kenyatta.
The CEO was awarded for his exemplary service in helping irrigate every “irrigable land in Kenya”.
In gazette notice number 13598, award of orders, decorations, and medals on Jamuhuri Day, 12th December 2021, awards, and honors in recognition of distinguished and outstanding services rendered to the nation in various capacities and responsibilities, President Uhuru Kenyatta awarded Mugambi.
“I Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Defense Forces of the Republic of Kenya confer Awards and Honors to the following persons,” the President said.
Mugambi joined the Authority when it was called National Irrigation Board.
According to the Authority’s website, Mugambi is currently serving his second term as the CEO of National Irrigation Authority having been reappointed on August 1, 2020.
He has served as CEO of the National Irrigation Board since May 2016, first on acting capacity before his appointment as CEO on August 1, 2017.
He holds an MBA in Strategic Management from Kenya Methodist University and a Bachelor of Science degree in Agronomy from University of Nairobi. Mr Gitonga Mugambi is a well accomplished agronomist with experience of over 25 years in Planning and Strategy, Resource Mobilization and Formulation of irrigation development programmes such as Economic Stimulus Programme. His experience is valuable in policy formulation, implementation, and management of the National Irrigation Authority.
