Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong has given the new Busia Municipality Board 100 days to change the face of the border town.
The Governor was speaking when he presided over the opening of an induction course of Busia Municipality Board in Kisumu.
He asked Lands Executive Grephas Opata and Chief Officer Maurice Odundo to utilize the available resources to change the status of the town.
Residents have criticized the County Government over the current sorry state of the town.
“You should confront problems as they come and implement what people want. It is not the Governor’s role to receive complaints from residents concerning the dirt and sewerage within the Municipality,” he said,
Ojaamong said he will join the residents in cleaning the town and planting trees in front of shops like Rwandan President Paul Kagame.
“Officers should be able to bite the bullet and address problems affecting residents before they reach me; that way, residents will appreciate your quick response. “he said.
Ojaamong also took issue with the Municipality Board for taking two years to pay cleaners’ wages until they dumped garbage on the streets.
He said it’s his Government’s target to make Busia Municipality a 24-hour economy after the induction course.
He added that he will push the Members of the County Assembly to approve an allocation of KSh500M-KSh1B to the Municipality every financial year.
Lands Executive Grepahas Opata assured the Governor he will be briefing him every two days on their activities.
The Board chairman Wangalwa Oundo assured the Governor that the new team will make Busia town a center of excellence where every household can earn at least Sh10, 000 a month.
Oundo said the 100 days was tenable and urged the Governor to allow them collect revenue on behalf of the county government at a fee which will be ploughed back to improve infrastructure within the Municipality.
Finance Executive Phaustine Barasa agreed with the chairman’s proposal but urged him to avail their plan and resource to be able to execute the task.
