Nairobi County Assembly Speaker Benson Mutura has asked the County Assembly staff and City Reps to support reinstated Clerk Edward Gichana.
In an internal Memo to all staff and MCAs, Mutura said as per the Court of Appeal ruling delivered on 1st April 2022, Gichana who had been asked to step aside by the Court, has been reinstated.
The memo said this is as per the civil appeal number E.255 regarding the dispute on the position of the Clerk of the Nairobi City County Assembly, on 4th July 2021, the court of appeal directed Edward Ombowori Gichana who was then the substantive clerk of the County Assembly to step aside.
Former Clerk Jacob Ngwele had contested Gichana’s appointment as the Clerk.
“Accordingly, on 1st, April 2022, the court made a determination on the foregoing matter by way of a judgment. In the Judgment, the Court upheld the judgment and decree of the Labor Relations Court on petition number 194 of 2019 affirming that Edward Gichana is the substantive Clerk of the Assembly” Mutura said.
Mutura said the County Assembly Service Board met on Monday 4th April 2022 and unanimously endorsed the ruling and welcomed back Mr Gichana into office.
“The Board assured him of its support and calls upon all MCAs and staff to accord him the necessary support,” Mutura said.
