The county government of Busia, the Sports world and Sigalame fraternity are mourning the untimely death of a form three student who died after clashing with an opponent.
The incident happened during Busia Term One rugby 15s play-off match at St Mathias Boys Secondary School grounds on Friday.
Eliakim Oundo died at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital on Saturday night where he was admitted undergoing brain surgery.
Busia Governor Sospeter Ojaamong said he received the death of Oundo with shock and conveyed his condolence message to the family, sports and Sigalame fraternity.
Sigalame Principal Peter Auma said Oundo collided with a Nambale player and was rushed to Busia referral hospital where CT scan revealed he had blood clot in his brain.
Auma said Oundo was moved to Life Care Health Centre in Bungoma where’s he was admitted.
He was transferred to MTRH where he succumbed to the injury.
The Principal said the game was physical, noting that they did their best to save the player’s life but in vain.
Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association Busia County Secretary Charles Okanya regretted the incident saying sports fraternity in Busia has never witnessed such an incident before.
