Twenty students from Trans Nzoia County are among 1000 who have won scholarship from Kenya Commercial Bank.
The ceremony to award them was conducted at Town Hall, Kitale on Friday.
KCB Kitale branch Manager Hillary Sitienei presided over the event with Trans Nzoia county secretary Truphosa Awuor being the key speaker.
Addressing the gathering, Sitienei said under their scholarship, students from a humble background were picked.
She said the Bank has allocated sh.100 Million to cater for 1000 students enrolled in the 2023 scholarship.
The students were issued with cheques to pay for the full school fees and cash money for shopping and uniform.
Each student will be allocated a mentor from both the bank staff and the county Government of Trans Nzoia.
The program will see school fees for four years paid.
County secretary Truphosa Awuor appreciated the Bank for the sponsorship and urged other financial institutions to collaborate with the County to help in educating bright students from less privileged families.
She said the County helped in identifying the beneficiaries adding that all of them were deserving cases having scored 380 marks and above.
“Today is a great day for you young brilliant students. I advise you to be disciplined, get good friends and perform well,” said the county secretary.
She said the students have an opportunity to become what they want to be in future.
She noted that the County Government of Trans Nzoia will support more students under the bursary program whose vetting is on the way.
Others who attended the function were Education Chief officer Jane Wachenge and her Governance Counterpart Sammy Sichangi, KCB Kitale West Branch manager Luke Bitok and KCB scholarship mentor Trans Nzoia branch Nicky Towet.
