The Karura Sports Ground at the Kenya Forest Service Headquarters in Nairobi have been rehabilitated to International standards.
The Chief Conservator of Forests Julius Kamau presided over the official handing-over ceremony of the facility after it received a facelift
Kamau said the Sports ground must reclaim its lost glory.
The grounds natural grass has been restored through ground levelling per recommended international sporting standards, installation of an automated underground irrigation system and improvement of the drainage system around the facility.
“This has been achieved through a multilateral partnership between the Service, Friends of Karura Forest Community Forest Association, Davis & Shirtliff and Asepsis Kenya Limited,” Kamau said.
The state-of-the-art irrigation apparatus is a fully automated sprinkler system with 6 lines each comprising of 4 sprinklers and fed by four 10,000 Liters water tanks.
Kamau added that the facility will be instrumental in facilitating recreational activities that will encourage discipline and team building among the KFS staff.
While presenting sporting apparel to the KFS sporting teams who comprise; athletics, football, and volleyball, he said he appreciates the KFS volleyball and athletics sports teams who participate at national level tournaments and urged them to be in the frontline ensuring KFS has a good corporate image.
He said the Service has sportsmen in the athletics team who have competed in marathon tournaments such as the Standard Chartered Marathon and Boston marathon (2006)
The CCF joined the athletics team in a demo run to commemorate the official use of the field for track and other field events.
The handover exercise was attended by the KFS Senior Management team, members of the FKF CFA and representation from Davis & Shirtliff.
