Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa has urged the national committee on Corona virus prevention to increase the number of funeral attendees from fifteen to 100 people.
He told the press at his Milimani residence, after distributing sanitizers and food stuffs to the needy across the constituency.
Wamalwa said allowing only fifteen people to attend funeral makes more people to miss sending off their loved ones. “Some people are polygamous, if for example one wife has fifteen children, this means the other wives and children would miss the funeral.” The MP said.
He said the 100 should follow the government’s directive of observing social distance, sanitizing and wearing masks to contain covid-19.
The vocal legislature who doubles as the minority deputy whip asked the government to open churches and mosques “We are appealing to the committee to also ensure churches and mosques are open as long as members adhere to the ministry of health regulations.” Wamalwa said.
He cautioned the police against harassing his constituents in the name of enforcing the ongoing curfew.
“The police should know that the entry of corona pandemic did not do away with the constitution.” He said.
Wamalwa said human rights, freedom of association and movement should be obeyed as long as people observe the curfew hours.
He asked the Trans Nzoia county government to use Trans Nzoia Referral Hospital as an isolation center. He asked the national government to collaborate with Kemri to establish Corona testing centers in all the forty-seven counties. This he said will make testing affordable.
The second term MP has ambitions of becoming Trans Nzoia governor. He has asked the government to construct dykes in flood-prone areas in the county. Floods have affected several villages including Namanjalala,Kobos,Tembelela among others.
