A Kitale based down to earth advocate of the High Court has been nominated for appointment by the President as a Judge of the High court.
Professor Nixon Sifuna’s name is among the 20 names forwarded to President William Ruto on Thursday by Judicial Service Commission’s chair and President of Judiciary Martha Koome for appointment.
Sifuna has won several cases in courts including that one of former Trans Nzoia Governor Patrick Khaemba verses former minister Noah Wekesa for Trans Nzoia gubernatorial race in 2013.
He is perceived to be fearful by other lawyers whenever he represents his clients.
During an interview with JudiciaL Service Commission, Sifuna proposed the introduction of standby cause lists in courts as one of the innovative ways to tackle the backlog of cases in the country.
The move -he said will allow judicial officers to proceed with other cases in the event of the collapse of the main case.
“Currently some because lists are unrealistic noting that some Magistrates and Judges have many matters in a day and that is impossible to handle” said Sifuna during the interview.
The news of his nomination has been praised by both residents of Kitale and Tongaren where he resides.
According to the Salaries and Remuneration Commission, a Judge of the High Court will pocket between sh 657,426 and sh 907,279 per month.
He is a Professor of law who has also been lecturing at Moi University.
He is also an environmentalist with a Masters in Environmental Science.
Besides his legal career, Sifuna is a dog trainer and a blacksmith.
In 2017, he vied for Tongaren MP seat but he was rejected by the electorate.
