The Kitale Amputee football team has appealed to well-wishers to help it get funds to prepare for the African Cup of Nations tournament.
The tournament will be held in October in Tanzania.
Speaking in Kitale town, Bernard Isagi Ong’ondo the team manager and Zablon Ogonyo , the organizing secretary said the County Government of Trans Nzoia has been of great help to them but they need other well wishers to come on board.
“It’s the beginning of the financial year. The County officials have said we can only access cash in October. This may make it difficult for us to train since we do not have all the required equipment’s” Isagi said.
He added that the Kitale team is the one that normally produces the Goalkeeper and the midfield and that if they do not travel to Nairobi for selection, Kenya may end up having a week National team at the tournament.
The Kitale team was established in 2010.
Amputee football involves amputees- those who have lost at least an arm.
The loss maybe caused by accidents and other natural causes.
Ogonyo who also doubles up as the organizing secretary of the Kenya Amputee footfall said loss of arms does not mean an end to life.
Isagi said the Kitale team has 10 players.
He said those who reside in Trans Nzoia and are amputated should join the team.
Ogonyo added that last year, three of their players went to Mexico to represent Kenya.
“Next year, we will be going to Turkey. Our prayer is that many of our players join the National team,” he said.
The team received a new set of uniforms from well-wisher John Ogutu Omondi.
Omondi, the immediate former Embakasi East MP called on his friends to support the team.
The uniforms were delivered to the team through Easy Coach.
