The Ministry of Health will collaborate with the county government of Trans Nzoia to improve standards for the Matunda Sub- County Hospital.
Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha regretted that services at the hospital are below the status of a Level Four Hospital.
Addressing the press at the hospital on Sunday, Nakhumicha slammed the Kenya Medical Supplies Agency for delivering inadequate supplies to the hospital.
“It is regrettable that out of what the hospital ordered through the County Government, only 30 percent of the supplies was delivered “she said.
Nakhumicha said in collaboration with the County Government, she will immediately direct KMPDC CEO to do a need analysis at the hospital.
After the analysis, the KMPDC council will submit recommendations on all that is required to make the hospital fully operational and serve effectively.
The CS said the locals rarely visit the hospital because they have lost faith in it since it has inadequate facilities.
She said after the need analysis, the hospital will be well equipped.
She said her ministry will provide the hospital with an ambulance to help in service delivery especially for referral cases.
The health boss asked the area MCAs to allocate more funds to the health department.
During the visit, the CS found only one patient whose blood samples were being tested in the laboratory.
She however lauded the hospital management and the County Government for the appropriate structures established at the facility.
In a report last week, Governor George Natembeya also expressed some concern over KEMSA’s drug supplies.
Natembeya assured residents that all the hospitals will be supplied with drugs on time.
