A somber mood has engulfed the clouds of Bungoma County as Kenya’s first Coronavirus death was announced on Thursday 26th, March 2020.
Wakajuanes.com went on to report that Health Cabinet Secretary Mutahi Kagwe announced for the first time in his briefings that the country has recorded the first COVID 19-related death since the disease broke out in China three months ago.
Mr. Kagwe announced that the 66-year old arrived into the country on March 13, 2020 from South Africa via Swaziland.
The patient, who hails from Kimalewa village in Kabuchai Constituency- Bungoma, was also battling diabetes by the time of his sad demise at the Agha Khan ICU where he was receiving resuscitation.
He is also understood to have another 100-acre home in Cherang’anyi, Trans Nzoia County.
A close family member who spoke to Wakajuaness on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the matter revealed that at least five family members of the diseased have been quarantined after the government ordered for the move following their close interaction with the late.
His nephew Micha Sali expressed his shock on a WhatsApp group.
“Rest in peace my dear uncle. We never knew corona would begin the harvest from our home,” he posted as his colleagues joined together to share their condolences to the family.
The late Engineer Maurice Barasa Namiinda was the Director of GIBB International Ltd (formerly Sir Alexander GIBB & Partners, Africa), a civil engineering company.
According to their website, GIBB and associated companies has been involved in development projects in East and Central Africa since the early 1940s.
Since then, the company has successfully completed over 2,000 consultancy assignments, covering a broad spectrum of sectors and specializations.
GIBB Africa Ltd has its headquarters in Nairobi and was registered as a limited liability company in Kenya.
The company has been responsible for the design and supervision of construction works to the value of over US$ 1800 million in East Africa, Southern Africa and Middle Eastern countries.
In addition, advisory services have been given for works to a further value of some US$ 3,000 million.
