The Former Archbishop of Nairobi Raphael Ndingi Mwana a’Nzeki has died.
Cardinal John Njue announced the passing of the Archbishop on Tuesday morning.
He said the Archbishop Emeritus died on Monday night.
He was taken ill on Monday night and rushed to Matter Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Njue asked Catholic faithful’s to pray for his soul.
He was born on December 25, 1931, in Mwala Machakos.
He was ordained a priest in 1961 where he served under then-Archbishop JJ McCarthy of the Nairobi Diocese.
He was consecrated Bishop in 1969 by Pope Paul VI.
He served as Bishop in the Dioceses of Machakos, Nakuru and later Nairobi.
He succeeded Cardinal Otunga on April 21, 1997, as the Archbishop of Nairobi.
He retired on October 6, 2007, after attaining the age of 74years.
He was succeeded by the current Cardinal John Njue who was his assistant in Nakuru.
