Several people have asked the Third Way Alliance leader Ekuru Aukot to get a Pay Bill number from Safaricom so that they contribute towards the Punguza mzigo initiative.
Speaking to Hot News, Michael Wainaina a resident of Umoja said that the Ekuru Aukot led initiative of Punguza mzigo will reduce the wage bill and lessen the burden on the tax payer.
Aukots Punguza Mizigo Campaign proposes to amend the Constitution of Kenya 2010 under the popular initiative as envisioned in Article 257.
He wants to reduce cost of running Parliament from current kshs 36.8 billion to kshs 5 billion per year.
This saves tax payer’s kshs 31.8 billion.
Address over representation and reduce number of MP’s from the current 416 to 147.
Use the 47 counties as single constituency unit for purposes of Parliamentary elections to Senate and National Assembly.
End historical gender inequality and ensure that Kenyans elect one man and one woman from each of the 47 counties into the National Assembly.
The third Way alliance is also seeking to abolish nominations in county Assemblies and Senate and elevate Senate to be an upper house with veto powers.
Several MP’s and MCA;s who spoke to Hot News said they will support Aukot.
“This initiative will help end recurrent post election violence. These ideas of winner takes it all will make us fight again. We need to share the resources and political positions we have as a country. Everybody is entitled to what belongs to Kenyans,” said Edward Kasili.
On Thursday, the IEBC Okayed over one million signatures obtained by Third Way Alliance.
Akot submitted the signatures to IEBC in February 2018 for verification.
In a statement, IEBC chairman Wafula Chebukati said the commission confirmed the initiative has been supported by 1,222,541 verified registered voters.
The commission said it will now submit the draft bill to each of the 47 county assemblies for consideration before October.
