A professional caucus bringing together minority and marginalized groups across the country has asked for inclusion of more of its members in the National and County Governments.
Led by head of Minority and Marginalized communities’ affairs at the office of the Deputy President Amos Ledaa Olempaka, they said previous regimes have sidelined them.
Houghton Hatibu Nyoka who represents the Coast region said when the Coast people said “Pwani Sio Kenya” it was not their wish, but they had been pushed to the wall feeling the government ignored them.
He represents several groups including Pare (Vaathu) community, Saanye(Dhalo) and Ilwana.
“We are asking President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto to take affirmative action and consider the minority communities. We urge MPs to reject the law compelling all aspiant to be degree holders. That will marginlse us,” Hatibu said.
He also asked for inclusion of the marginalized communities to the list of popular tribes of Kenya.
Hatubu said this will push the total tribes in Kenya to 79.
“The small tribes should not be counted as others. That is marginalization,” he said.
He added that some members of the marginalized communities elevated to posts such as chiefs and sub chiefs were asked to assimilate to bigger tribes before appointments which is against human rights.
