The County Assemblies combined football team upset Senators 2-1 in a special friendly match, marking the launch of the Legislative Summit 2019 at the Moi Stadium Kisumu on Sunday.
Joseph Ongoro from Kisumu County put the MCAs into the lead after 20 minutes to take a 1-0 lead at the break.
The Senate team made it 1-1 a few minutes into the second half through Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala following a pass from Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen.
The MCAs piled on pressure to net the winning goal with 10 minutes to the final whistle through Paul Matuya of Kajiado County.
Chakol South MCA in Busia County Hon Okodoi Maskini was named the man of the match.
“I was not expecting it; that was encouraging and it means also that at whatever age we can keep ourselves fit,”
“I really frustrated Senator Murkomen and that saw him not to score a single goal. That might have also contributed to my being voted the man of the match,” he said.
Hon Maskini urged his fellow colleagues in Busia to start early preparations for the forthcoming CASA games, adding that regular practice will win them top honors.
