Muslim Clerics on Saturday invited members of other faiths to Jamia Mosque in Nairobi to learn about Islam.
The Mosque held an Open Day where members of other faiths were taken on a tour of the 94-year-old Mosque and latter had a question and answer session with the Clerics.
Sheikh Athman Abdala Darwesh said the Open Day was aimed at clearing misconceptions about Islam.
“People think Islam is about extremism, radicalization. That’s not true because Islam is a friendly religion” he said.
Sheikh Darwesh who inducts new converts at Jamia Mosque said Christians are close to Muslims and that they should co-exist in harmony.
The Holy Quran 5:82: says “ You will surely find the most intense of the people in animosity toward the believers [to be] the Jews and those who associate others with Allah ; and you will find the nearest of them in affection to the believers those who say, “We are Christians.” The Sheikh said.
He added that a few youths have tainted Islam by being extremism and killing innocent people in terror attacks.
Sheikh Darwesh said Islam teaches about love and tolerance of other religions.
City resident Abraham Kinuthia said he was delighted to visit the Mosque and learn about Islam.
“I had a lot of misconceptions about Islam but I have now changed my perception. I am glad the Clerics chose to open the Mosques gates for us. It has been a good learning tour around the Mosque , “ Kinuthia said.
