Hundreds of motorists in Nairobi were blocked by anti-riot police officers from heading to their homes on Saturday night after they were caught up with the 8pm curfew.
The motorists spent at least 4 hours on the roads before they could head home at 12 am midnight.
Police mounted several roadblocks on City roads.
A spot check by Hot News team revealed that there was a roadblock at Kayole Junction, Wilson Airport and KWS to Galleria Mall on Langata road.
Motorists told Hot News Thika Road was closed entirely.
There was a roadblock at Mwiki, Kasarani Road, Junction Mall, Shujaa Mall and at the Coptic Hospital on Ngong road.
Waiyaki Way was also blocked.
“Police have put up several roadblocks at major highways tonight and no one is being let past them. Thika Road,Waiyaki Way,Kangundo Road have all been blockaded with even essential services not allowed to pass,” posted Steve Riugu Njuguna on facebook.

“Very Bad bad…… Government should not do this to Citizens ni mbaya Sana aibu! Shame! ……..very shameful…… Covid, corona will be here for years lock down will not be forever…..kesho media will cover all these sad state of affairs….” lamented Journalist David Ndolo.
During the closure, even essential service providers were not allowed to proceed with their journey.
Ambulances were also caught up in the heavy traffic snarl up on Thika Road.
Several youths reportedly confronted the police on Kangundo road and forced them to allow motorists to drive home.
Nairobi regional Police commander Augustine Nthumbi said “Neglect of the covid 19 rules and regulations is a breach of the law. Please observe the correct timings to avoid conflict with officers of the law,”
Its not clear who ordered the police to allow the motorists to proceed with their journey at midnight.
Kenyans took to social media to condemn the police.
