MP Jakoyo Midiwo was a de -facto leader of minority in the 11th parliament, Senator Isaac Mwaura has said.
The legislator represented Gem constituency for three consecutive terms since 2002 to 2017.
In his official Facebook page, Mwaura also the Chairman of the Albinism Society of Kenya said he was privileged to serve with Midiwo in the 11th parliament.
“Fare thee well Hon Jakoyo Midiwo. Fare thee well JaGem. A great man with a kind heart.” he posted.
He thanked Midiwo for supporting him when he vied to be a member of the East African Legislative Assembly in May 2012 and in joining the National Assembly in 2013.
Mwaura recalled how he was close to Midiwo.
“We fellowshipped together in the Bunge fellowship on many Wednesdays, travelled together in places such as Indonesia and Panama under African Parliamentarians Network Against Corruption.” Mwaura said.
He said they caucused and strategized on various debates on the floor of the National Assembly and later debated on NTV weekly.
Mwaura added that together with Midiwo, they were the brains behind an internal lobby in Orange Democratic Movement in 2014 that attempted to bring fresh blood into the party despite a back door take over.
He said,
“We birthed ODM fresh at the reception of Miriam House, named after your dear mother. An internal lobby that would have taken over the reigns of the party were it not for the “Men in Black” and the internal betrayal that caused a contradiction in the team.”
