President Uhuru Kenyatta has criticized Senate Majority leader Kipchumba Murkomen and Makueni Senator Mutula Kilonzo Junior for defending Governor Mike Sonko in court.
In his Jamhuri Day speech, Uhuru said it is conflict of interest for professionals who take up public jobs to engage in private practice.
“Its wrong for legislators to appear in court,” he said.
In an apparent reference to the two, Uhuru said state officers should not engage in private practice.
As if referring to embattled KNUT secretary General Wilson Sossion, Uhuru said one should either decide to be a Teacher or an MP.
TSC had deregistered Sossion but was reinstated by the Court.
He went on to say that Lawyers, teachers, doctors, Engineers who take up public offices should stop private practice.
He said that its conflict of interest when the Public Servants engage in private practice.
The President went on to say that the war on corruption will go on and that no public officer will be spared.
He said that the has asked the Attorney General to Fastrack the law on conflict of interest which is at the stakeholder’s stage.
Several other legislators like James Orengo, Mathare MP Antony Oluoch have appeared in court to defend their clients.
Only time will tell if the MPs will pass the law on conflict of interest since many of them are engaged in private practice.
