More than fifty Christians including their Bishops from two churches in Kitale have been arrested after attending Church on Sunday.
The Government has banned Church services on Sundays, weddings, funerals and any other gatherings.
The members of Alpha Omega Healing Foundation International and Alpha Foundation churches were arrested in an operation that was led by area police commander Ayub Gitonga.
The Sunday services were led by Pastors with Bishop Solomon Mulongo leading the service at Alpha Omega Healing Foundation Church.
Gitonga said the churches had violated the government regulations on social distancing and the recent banning of social gatherings as a measure to prevent the spread of Covid-19
“Pastors and their assistants should only preach through Video and TV. That is what is provided for now. All government regulations must be strictly adhered to,” said Gitonga.
The Police Commander said police are alert and cautioned churches and other groups against violating the directives saying those who will- will be arrested and charged in court.
During the arrest, Bishop Mulongo said the government and the Church are two different ministries and each should respect the other.
“It is only through prayer that we will stop the spread of Covid-19. If we leave out God, the world will continue suffering “said Mulongo.
Some Christians were released on police bond but all of them will be charged in court on Monday.
