The government on Friday withdrew all the six bodyguards attached to Kiambu county boss, Ferdinand Waititu.
Waititu now remains with one civilian security officer who was complimenting the five AP officers and one Kenya Police officer.
A security agent privy to the unfolding drama confirmed the bodyguards have been withdrawn.
The source said the move could be political adding that the drama is still unfolding.
“It is true all of them have been withdrawn. We are watching the drama.” the source told Hot News.
However, Kiambu Police Commander Adiel Nyange said he was not aware of the incident.
“I think you should ask the head of Critical Infrastructure protection unit. This is because for me, I don’t provide security to VIPs,” Nyange said.
However, Citizen TV confirmed in the 9pm bulletin on Saturday night that Governor Waititu, MPs Kimani Ichungwa, Kimani Ngunjiri , Aishwa Jumwa , Nakuru Senator Kihika Kimani and Alice Wahome had their bodyguards withdrawn.
Citizen TV quoted Police spokesperson Charles Owino saying that the withdrawal was procedural and that the police officers had been recalled and new officers will be assigned to the Governor and the MPs.
However, social media was awash with talk that the State had withdrawn the security because the Governor and MPs are allied to DP Wiliam Ruto and that they have been in the forefront in putting the Country on a campaign mode.
President Uhuru Kenyatta has in the recent past warned against early campaigns.
ODM leader Raila Odinga has also added his weight behind the president’s sentiments.
The MPs have been accompanying Ruto in his countrywide tours dubbed Tangatanga.
There is speculations that Waititu’s fire arm license may have also been cancelled and he may consider using county askaris and former Kaa Sober members as his security.
Kaa Sober was an initiative by the governor where he enrolled alcoholics to do manual jobs in their villages including clean up exercises and destroying illict brews dens at a fee of Ksh 400 per day.
Close to six thousand youths were involved.
The programme flopped after a year.
