Residents of Nyanza have been called upon to quit ODM and join Ford Kenya.
Speaking at a Nairobi Hotel, a lobby group Friends of Ford Kenya (FFK) said ODM and its leadership have “let the residents down”
Mike Ouma from Ford Kenya Bondo chapter said the residents should simply go back to their founding father Jaramogi Oginga Odinga’s party.
“ODM has outlived its usefulness. The Party was formed in 2005 but achieved little. Its leaders haven’t done anything to benefit the people,” Ouma said.
He said Ford Kenya and its leaders during the reign of the late Jaramogi had championed for the Luo and larger Nyanza resident’s interests.
Ouma added that it’s time to abandon ODM and join Ford Kenya.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is a Centre-left political party.
It is the successor of a grassroots people’s movement which was formed during the 2005 Kenyan constitutional referendum campaign.
This movement separated in August 2007 into the Orange Democratic Movement Party of Kenya and the Wiper Democratic Movement – Kenya (formerly the Orange Democratic Movement – Kenya, known as ODM–Kenya).
Currently, ODM is led by Raila Odinga .
The National Chairman is John Mbadi and Secretary-General Edwin Sifuna.
Its Spokesperson is Philip Etale.
The Party was founded by Mugambi Imanyara in 2005.
On the other hand, the Forum for the Restoration of Democracy–Kenya (FORD–Kenya) has sat in the government of Kenya once, under the National Rainbow Coalition, from 2003 to 2007 -having ended forty years of one party (Kenya African National Union) rule.
In April 2022, the party joined the Kenya Kwanza coalition for the August 2022 elections, and is headed by Moses Wetangula, the current speaker of the National Assembly.
