Jubilee Candidate in the Kibra By election Mac Donald Mariga has called on the IEBC to ensure those in the Diaspora are registered as voters.
Speaking while touring several Polling stations in Kibra, Mariga said he was saddened by the fact that he was not able to vote in the Kibra by-election because he is not a registered voter in the constituency.
He said there are at least 1 million Kenyans in the Diaspora who need to be registered as voters.
“Those of us in the Diaspora haven’t been given enough time to register as voters. Let the Diaspora be voters. I have been out playing football and that’s the reason I was not a registered voter. Once I get to Parliament, I will push for all those in the Diaspora to be registered,” he said.
In the last elections, Kenyans in the Diaspora voted at the Embassies and High Commissions.
However, not all people in the Diaspora turned out to vote.
Mariga also dismissed allegations linking him to voter bribery in the elections.
“It’s wrong and false to link me to voter bribery. If you get anyone bribing voters, take them to the police,” he said.
