A section of Jubilee MPs have vowed not to remove National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale over what they called flimsy reasons.
The MPs who requested anonymity said they were forced to sign a petition to remove Duale.
“We were intimidated and threatened with dire consequences. We are happy the plot failed. Infact, we are ready to withdraw our signatures,” said an MP from Central Kenya who requested anonymity.
Others said they were “broke” and only wanted Duale to part with something small for them.
“This Covid-19 has taken a toll on some of us. Duale should read the signs and call people and see them. That is the ugly truth,” said another MP from Western Kenya.
However, other MPs said some of their colleagues are going against President Uhuru Kenyatta’s directive.
“We were in State House the other day. Duale was spared and the mater closed. All these are shenanigans,” the female MP told Hot News.
She said MPs going against President Uhuru Kenyatta risk being disciplined.
On Monday, reports emerged that the Jubilee Party will soon convene another National Assembly Parliamentary Group meeting to decide the fate of Duale.
Chief whip Emmanuel Wangwe was quoted by a section of the media.
He said 126 MPs had signed a petition to have Duale dropped.
Wangwe said Secretary General Raphael Tuju will communicate when the meeting will take place.
COTU SG Francis Atwoli unsuccessfully tried to have Duale axed.
Now Kieni MP Kanini Kega has been calling for the removal of Duale.
Duale said he will not be cowed because those who want him to go cannot explain why they want him removed.
