The Nairobi County Government new revenue collection system has kicked off smoothly.
However, there were a few hiccups experienced and City Hall officers were standby to sort out any challenges.
Currently, all those paying for services are using the new USSD code *235#.
However, Jampo Pay users who had balances on their e-wallets have been advised to use USSD code *805# to access their funds.
Governor Mike Sonko has however warned that “cartels must fall”.
“Those spreading fake rumors that City Hall is migrating from Digital to Analogue, just because we refused to extend Jambopay contract which has been there since 2014 are dreaming,” he said.
Sonko said those are enemies of development and that the County government of Nairobi is ready to run its own revenue management system.
“We will put in all efforts to ensure a smooth transition,” Sonko said.
However, residents took to social media to raise several queries about the new system.
@Geff Kirui “But the ussd code has a transaction cost of ksh23 so literally one is charged to pay parking and other charges,”
City Hall said it will respond to all the concerns raised by the residents and address them.
With the launch of the new system, this brings an end to the relationship between JamboPay and the Nairobi County government.
JamboPay was controversially contracted by the Kidero administration to collect revenue.
However, the Auditor Genral occasionally queried how the contract was awarded.
MCA’s also called for the cancellation of the contract saying it was awarded fraudulently.
City Hall has announced that it expects a growth in revenue collection with the launch of its own internal mechanisms.
