A 19 year old boy from Kibera was last week stabbed to death by an ex-boyfriend of his girlfriend.
Jafar Ahmed Salim was allegedly killed by Ali/Aleza on the morning of the 5th of February in his girlfriend’s house in Mashimoni, Kibera.
According to Jafars relatives, the girl, 21 year old Rukia had sent him shs 400 to come and visit her in Kibera.
Jafar left Kisaju in Kajiado for Kibera on 4th February after visiting his grandmother.
Relatives said that on the 5th February, he visited his girlfriend’s house in the company of his cousin Iddi.
They spent the night in the singleroom where Jafar was in bed with his girlfriend Rukia together with her two year old son.
Relatives said two other girls identified as Mwanaidi and Bahati together with Iddi slept on the floor.
Iddi told police in his statement that around 11pm someone knocked at the door and the girlfriend (Rukia) asked who it is.
“The person who knocked at the door said. Let me finish some assignment here then call you, “read Iddis statement.
It is reported that within a minute, the door was hit and the house broken into and a middle aged man got inside.
“He went straight to bed and found Rukia and Jafar .He asked what is going on.” said Jafars Aunt.
According to Idds statement with the police, he dashed to close the door so that he can fight off the intruder.
Unfortunately he met two other people and one of them hit him.
Iddi told police he ran away and went to sleep at his grandmother’s place on Karanja road.
However, relatives said Iddi told police he identified one of the attackers as Ali/Aleza an ex-boyfriend to Rukia.
According to the relatives, Bahati has recorded a statement with the police and Mwanaidi not.
According to Jafars Aunt Farida Salim Khamis, Rukia called Jafars mother at around 3 am on the morning of 6th February telling her that they had been attacked and Jafar had been stabbed to death.
According to the aunt, Rukia alleges that after they had been attacked. Jafar was stabbed and left bleeding.
Rukia claims she and her uncle’s took Jafar to Kenyatta National hospital where he was pronounced dead and latter taken to city mortuary.
The family said that they carried out a postmortem and buried Jafar on 7th February.
However, the family was not given the postmortem results and that they were given to Rukia after she claimed she was Jafars wife.
It is reported that Rukia did not attend the burial but her parents did.
However, what shocked Jafars family is that after the burial, Rukia posted on her whatsapp status bragging about Jafars death.
“Stupid women, stay there mourning a stupid death, if you wanted to save him, you should have done so. If you want to know about Jaffers death, ask me,” Rukia is reported to have posted on her whatsapp status.
According to Jafars Aunt, this made them angry and on 8th of February, they reported the matter to Kilimani police station under Ob number 33/0802/2019.
The aunt said police summoned Rukia who declined to go to the police station.
A day later, it’s reported that a scuffle ensued between Jafars mother and Rukias mother.
Rukia went to report the incident to Kilimani police station and she was arrested for giving contradicting statements.
Police detained her over the murder but released her after two days.
Relatives said police have asked her to report to the DCIs Kilimani office at 8 am every day.
Jafars relatives said that when they went home that day, scenes of crime officers from Kilimani police found the house where Jafar was murdered empty and the blood that was 70meters from the house had been cleaned.
“We need justice for our son. We need to be given the postmortem results which copies are being held by the police and we want the original report that was given to Rukias family. We simply want to know who killed jafar,” Jafars Aunt Khamis said.
Jafars family also wants 24 year old Ali/ Aleza arrested and questioned over the murder.
They also want the police to summon and question all those who were with Jafar before he died.
The Nubian Human Rights Forum weighed into the matter and asked the police to expedite the investigation.
“We want justice for Jafars family. Let all those involved be arrested,” said Shafi Ali the chairman of the Nubian Human Rights Forum.
