Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has issued an executive order promoting at least 6,274 workers.
The County Government of Nairobi has a total of 11,334 workers.
The promotion comes a month after the Nairobi City County Public Service Board promised to promote the workers.
A total of 1310 workers who have been promoted are from the Security and Compliance department.
The Health department has seen a total of 1184 workers promoted.
The department has a total of 3,371 workers.
1,126 workers from the Devolution and Sub County administration were also promoted.
The Finance and Economic planning department has a total of 425 workers promoted.
City Hall workers were last promoted in 2013.
On Tuesday, the over 6000 workers received their promotion letters.
According to the County Public Service Board, the promotions were done as per the scheme of service in the Public Service Sector.
Governor Mike Sonko’s spokesperson Ben Mulwa said the promotions have been catered for in the supplementary budget which was on Tuesday debated and passed by MCAs.
Last month, Governor Sonko held a meeting with the Kenya County Government Workers Union (KCGWU).
During the meeting, it was agreed that workers will be paid on time and that they will be promoted.
