Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has announced that the County Government of Nairobi will partner with NHIF to issue medical cover to all poor households in Nairobi.
The Governor said the new medical scheme will be unveiled this financial year to cushion vulnerable groups in the City.
“As part of the Big Four agenda, my administration will partner with NHIF to ensure quality and affordable healthcare services are offered in our county hospitals. This will ensure accessible healthcare to the poor across Nairobi,” he said.
Sonko told Hot News he is also planning to upgrade County hospitals in Nairobi to boost healthcare services.
In 2019/20 financial year, the Sonko’s administration allocated Sh7.2 billion to the health sector.
Part of the money has been set aside for refurbishment of Mbagathi, Mama Lucy, Mutuini and other healthcare facilities.
