Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has breathed a sigh of relief after the DPP dropped assault charges against him.
The prosecution had earlier alleged that he assaulted Coast Regional Police Commander Rashid Yakubu at Ikanga airstrip on December 6th, 2019.
The charge sheet had indicated that he resisted arrest and kicked the Police commander on the thigh.
The DPP while applying to withdraw the case, said Yakubu is no longer interested in pursuing the matter.
On December 8th, 2019, former Kibwezi MP Kalembe Ndile sked the Inspector General of Police to arrest the officers whom he said assaulted Sonko.
Ndile faulted the way Sonko was arrested.
Sonko was arrested on December 6th at Ikanga Airstrip with over 20 police officers, bundled into a police chopper and airlifted to Nairobi.
Voi Law Courts Senior Resident Magistrate Fredrick Nyakundi said he was satisfied by the DPPs application.
“Morning prayers are a great way to focus your day on hope and strength. Before you do your work, it’s always good you dedicate everything unto the Almighty God for guidance, protection and wisdom,” Sonko posted on his Facebook to over 2 million followers.
