New Busia County soccer champions Bunyala Model Secondary school have been drawn in Pool A of the Regional Term 2 Games in Bungoma .
The games will start on June 19th.
Bunyala model will meet hosts -champions Kibabii Boys.
Other teams drawn in the same pool with Model include Vihiga and Kakamega counties runners up Emanyinya and Emanani respectively.
Model upset the formbook on Saturday to win the county title after beating last year’s runners up Mabunge RC 2-0 in the finals played at St Joseph’s Secondary School grounds.
Defending champions Kamuriai were eliminated at sub county level.
Mabunge, in Pool B will face Kakamega champions St Peter’s Mumias; Vihiga champs Ebwali and Bungoma runners up Maliki Boys.
Kakamega County games had a major upset with the elimination of national champions Kakamega Green Commandoes in the preliminary round matches.
Busia under 20 Girls champions St Joseph’s Chakol have been pitied against national runners up Archbishop Njenga, and Vihiga and Bungoma runners up Emanyinya and FSS Naitiri.
Aboloi team, which lost to St Joseph’s Chakol in the final, are in Pool A with Vihiga and Bungoma champions Mudavadi and Brenda and Kakamega runners up Butere.
Volleyball Boys also had upsets with national champions Malava Boys which had dominated volleyball for over a decade falling in the preliminaries of the Kakamega County Games that was won by Kalumbeni after beating Indangalasia in the final.
Malava’s absence will give Busia champions Butula Boys a realistic chance of qualifying for the nationals for the first time after being rigged out in last year’s regional’s against Malava.
Butula beat Sigalame 3-0 to retain Busia County title. The school Principal Daniel Ouma is confident that the team has what it takes to secure a ticket for the national finals in the absence of their bitter rivals Malava Boys.
Malava Girls that ended Lugulu’s two decades reign in 2010 are notable absentees after failing to qualify for the regional games yet again, leaving Lugulu with a better chance of recovering their lost glory in the nationals where they lost to eventual champions Kwathanze last year.
