Kenya Secondary Schools Sports Association (KSSSA) boys’ basketball national runners-up Sigalame Boys’ continued with their dominance in the on-going Busia County secondary Schools Term One Games to qualify for Saturday’s finals.
Siga, as they are popularly known, secured a slot after beating Kolanya Boys 58-22 in a thrilling semi-final played at St Mary’s Mundika High School.
They will play arch-rivals Mundika who secured a final slot after seeing off last year’s runners up Butula Boys in the other semis.
“It will take blood and sweat for our regional opponents to deter us from reaching nationals for the second year in a row, we have a very good team and a capable coaching staff,” said Joseph Were, Sigalame Boys’ High School Principal-cum- basketball coach.
The girls’ finals will see a repeat of last year’s finals where defending champions Kolanya Girls will face Kisoko Girls in the final.
It was no surprise in rugby 15s when defending champions Nambale Boys made it to the finals following their 10-7 win over Murende.
They will square it out with either Sigalame or Mundika who clash in the other semis tomorrow.
Defending Rugby 7s champions Butula Boys are a match away from retaining their title after beating Lugulu AC 26-0 in the semi-final clash.
They will now meet St Paul’s Amukura in the finals.
In hockey boys, Kolanya defeated rivals Butula boys 2-1 to proceed to the finals.
They will meet Nambale Boys who beat St Paul’s Amukura with the same margin.
Newcomers will dominate handball girls’ event with Bumala AC and Aboloi Secondary qualifying for the finals.
Surprise team Bumala edged St Monica Chakol 9-8 while Aboloi beat Lwanya 14-7 in the other semis.
Boys’ champions Kolanya Boys have qualified for the finals after dispatching Katira 14-7.
The other semi-final between Mundika and Machakusi was stopped for a couple of minutes when players from Mundika refused to play, protesting that that Machakusi had allegedly fielded a player who had infringed on KSSSA eligibility rules.
They changed their mind and resumed play but lost to the never-say-die Machakusi.
It will be a repeat of the preliminary round match when the two teams met and Kolanya emerged winners scoring 20-14.
