Kolanya Boys dominated Busia County Term One Ball Games winning two titles, as the curtain for this year’s championships came done at St. Mary’s Mundika High School.
Kolanya retained the handball title after beating Mundika High 23-14 in a thrilling final played at Our Lady of Grace and Compassion with Eshalai Otwane scoring 15 goals.
The school reclaimed the hockey title they surrendered to Butula School last year after overcoming Nambale 2-1 in the final match at Mundika Primary School grounds.
Kolanya Girls came close to emulating their male counterparts but failed to oust Moding’ who retained the hockey girls crown on goal difference after both teams tied on seven points.
They managed to retain the basketball title after trouncing Kisoko 37-28 in the finals.
Consolata Achia, was top scorer for Kolanya with 18 points.
Lindah Nanjala scored nine points for Kisoko.
In basketball boys, Sigalame retained the title after walloping Mundika 86-30 in the finals with Thon Maker and Charles Kiragu scoring with 15 points apiece.
Eugene Omondi led with 10 points for Mundika.
In the girls’ category Bumala AC were crowned new champions after beating Aboloi 9-7 on eight seconds tiebreaker after the two teams tied 7-7 in regulation time.
Nambale Boys retained the Rugby 15s after beating Mundika 28-3 in the finals.
Calistus Volemi scored two tries with Barasa Justice and Samson Ngesa accounting for one each.
Victor Chiteri scored a penalty and three conversions.
Mundika’s consolation penalty came through Hillary Kadende.
Butula atoned for their hockey defeat to retain the Rugby 7s, beating St Paul’s Amukura High School (SPAHS) 19-3.
Victor Otieno, Ian Odhiambo and Oscar Odhiambo touched down once with Ian making one conversion.
Brian Etyang scored a penalty for the losers.
In the play-offs, St Mathias Busia beat St Paul’s Amukura 19-3 to take third position.
County Games and Sports chair Dan Ouma said the county will take three teams in Rugby 7s and two teams in handball boys, handball girls, basketball boys, basketball girls, hockey boys, hockey girls and Rugby 15s for the regional games in Vihiga County starting March 18.
Ouma exuded confidence that Team Busia will better last year’s performance with prospects for top honors in Rugby 15s, Rugby 7s and basketball.
