Young Muslim FC from Sio-Port emerged winners of the Victor Wanyama/Macdonald Mariga soccer tournament.
The tournament ended at Namboboto Primary School grounds in Samia Sub County on new year.
The tournament is co-sponsored by Victor Wanyama, the Tottenham Hotspurs attacking midfielder and retired international star Mac Donald Mariga.
They are sons of former AFC Leopards and Harambee Stars striker Noah “Land-mawe” Wanyama Humba.
Muslim registered a 2-1 hard-fought victory over Bananda in the match watched by Noah Wanyama and Busia Chief Officer for Culture /Water Moses Weunda among others.
Noah Bwire put Young Muslim into the lead in the third minute before William Baraza levelled for Bananda 10 minutes into the second half.
The winning goal for Young Muslim came in the 65th minute when Ferdinand Ndege converted a penalty after Bwire was brought down in the box.
In the semifinals, Young Muslim beat Dragon FC 5-4 on penalties after a goalless draw in normal time.
Bananda also won 5-4 on penalties after a goalless draw.
The winners received a trophy, uniforms and Sh70,000.
Bananda got a trophy, uniforms and Sh50,000 while Dragon FC who took third position contented with a trophy, uniforms and Sh30,000.
In netball, Odiado were crowned champions after beating Namboboto 40-9 in the finals to take home a trophy and Sh30,000.
The losers got a trophy and Sh20,000.
Noah said he has identified several players from some teams that took part in the tournament to undergo trials with AFC Leopards.
He asked the youths to embrace sports.
Noah said he was saddened by an incident where a young man declined an opportunity to play for AFC leopards because he couldn’t abandon his boda boda business.
Weunda lauded the efforts of Victor Wanyama for introducing Wanyama Foundation and the planned talent academy in Busia.
