Zambians took to social media to express their frustrations after Kenyan Fatuma Zarika retained the WBC Super Bantam Weight title after beating their own Catherine Phiri.
Zarika was declared the winner on a unanimous point’s verdict at KICC in Nairobi on Saturday night.
Zarika shrugged off stiff challenge from her opponent whom she beat in December last year before all the three judges gave her 8-92, 97-91 and 97-93 victory.
“It was not easy but I did my best to retain my title. My training in the United Kingdom gave me the confidence; I thank Kenyans for their overwhelming support,” Zarika said after the match adding that the Zambian has no other chance of fighting her after losing twice to her.
Phiri conceded defeat saying it was a good fight but despite her determination and being focused, lady luck failed to smile on her;
“I hope to play the Kenyan again.” She said.
However, for the better part of Sunday, Zambians under the group , Zambian Celebrities, took to social media to express their anger after Zarika was declared the winner of the Nairobi Night fight.
“We are super proud of our girl .Fighting a man till the last round. So brave and you always be our champion” #Zambiatotheworld.
However, several Kenyans especially those on Kilimani Mums facebook page replied with a harsh tag:
#SomebidyTellZambians we got no Semenya in Kenya @Ameda Omondi.
Sakali Emily But they looked alike! She looks like a man too.
Mercy Obukwa Art Only FOOLS think Zarika is a man!!!
Adhiambo Odhiambo Is this gentleman a girl? Really?
After nasty online exchanges , Zambian Celebrities apologized to Kenyans.
“Kenyans We Are Sorry! We Apologize For Calling Fatuma A Man!,” they posted on their facebook page.
