Trans Nzoia women representative Lilian Siyoi has urged people living with disability in the County to register with the Ministry of Gender and Social Services.
She said many of the PLWDs are not listed making it difficult for them to benefit from government goodies.
In a speech at Kitale showground during the launch of the registration exercise, the women rep said after registration, the group will have access to scholarships allocated for their children.
They will also get monthly stipends from the cash transfer fund.
“The problem we have is registration. As we start this process, I am optimistic that the money and other benefits set aside for the disabled groups will benefit our people,” Siyoi said.
Siyoi asked the County Government to consider the Companies of people living with disabilities for business whenever they participate in tenders.
“There should be no experience requirement for companies and business names owned by PLWDs. This will help them easily get tenders because most of them have no previous experience,” she said.
In the event they are awarded tenders, Siyoi said the National Government and her office will help them get funds.
Governor George Natembeya directed all public hospitals in the County not to charge shs 100 receipt fee whenever the disabled visits hospitals.
Through legislation at the County Assembly, he said his administration will set aside a grant for PLWDs in the next financial year.
