Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja said on Thursday that Uhuru and Central Parks will be opened to the public in December, 2022.
He said no charges will be levied.
The Parks were closed to the public in February 2021 for rehabilitation.
They now have a new look.
“This is just the beginning; the County is in the process of rehabilitating all the parks. We want our people to rest and enjoy,” Sakaja said while presiding over the World Tourism Day at City Hall.
The Governor added that his administration is in the process of reclaiming all social places that have been grabbed.
“Some people have grabbed social amenities, we are reclaiming them, improving them and we will create new ones to ensure every sub-county has a recreational facility,” Sakaja added.
The Governor said he will support the creative economy, adding that he is in discussion with the National Government to zero rate music and studio equipment’s in order to support growth and the expansion of the creative industry.
World Tourism Day is held on 27 September each year since 1980 to foster awareness among the International community on the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value.
