Veteran journalist Reuben Olita is the new Football Kenya Federation Busia Branch Secretary after beating Kakamega Homeboyz coach Nicholas Muyoti by 5- 4 votes in repeat elections.
The elections held at the County Commissioner Conference Hall in Busia Town saw Team Blue under Nick Mwendwa sweep the board against Team Black of Sam Nyamweya, winning all five contestable seats.
Former Busia Subbranch Secretary Hillary Musundi captured the chairmanship after beating former Busia Subbranch chairman William Musumba 5-4.
Musundi’s running mate who takes over as vice chair is Michael Ikolak.
Former AFC Leopards Team Manager Bernard Onyango was elected treasurer after beating FKF Teso Subbranch chairman Moses Imai 5-4.
Former Western Branch assistant secretary Josephine Oduori beat Anne Otiti 7-2 to capture the Women Representative seat.
Muyoti who witnessed the polls shook hands with Olita as he conceded defeat.
The same was exhibited by Imai who shook hands with Onyango as a sign of sportsmanship.
Team Blues Martin Buluma was elected unopposed as youth representative.
Musundi congratulated his team for the overwhelming victory and their opponents for offering stiff opposition, noting that with the elections now behind them, he pledged to embark on revamping the game by organizing competitions from grassroots level.
” I urge parents and teachers to support the youths by buying the equipment and giving them time to go and train to help in nurturing their talents, “he said.
He added that lack of sponsorship had lowered the standard of the game in the county, thus the need for county government and leadership to offer support.
Olita who thanked Muyoti for his sportsmanship of conceding defeat said their first task will be to help fast track the establishment of a sportsbill that will lead to creation of a fund to run sports in the County.
FIFA instructor Magaret Omondi who is vying for the NEC member post that will see her take charge of women football witnessed the polls.
