The African Women Leaders Network (AWLN) has condemned Kenyans on Social Media for bullying CJ Martha Koome and Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika.
They said social media platforms are full of negative images, cartoons, memes, and other forms of gender-based violence against women.
They spoke a week after a meme emerged portraying Nakuru Town as being flooded.
The meme went on to state that the Town is flooding because “it’s that time of the month when menstruation in women occurs”.
The creator of the meme went on to say that the Town is flooding because Nakuru County elected several women leaders starting from Governor, Senator, Women rep and several MPS.
The women led by Chairperson Jenifer Riria also condemned those criticizing Chief Justice Martha Koome for presiding over the Supreme Court that ruled in favor President William Ruto.
“We site the two cases, but there are many more, to demonstrate that none of us is safe until all girls and women are free from all forms of violations, including cyberbullying,” Riria said.
She said Kenyan women have come too far to be intimidated and urged all women and men to condemn cyberbullying.
They called on the officers from the Cybercrime to arrest the bullies.
They said technology can be used for innovation and development rather than humiliating and intimidating women.
“We reiterate that sexual harassment has no space in our society. We shall work together with the law enforcement officers to create awareness against gender-based violence in general and cyberbullying. We have to make Kenya safe for all her citizens including girls and women. None of us is safe until all are,” Riria said.
