Ambassadors Mohammed Khayat of Saudi Arabia and his UAE counterpart Khalid Khalifa were hosted by Saboti MP Caleb Amisi.
The Embassies of Saudi Arabia and United Arab Emirates (UAE) on Saturday donated shs 10 million foodstuffs to residents of Kitale’s Kipsongoo slums.
Addressing residents who turned up to receive the food, Amisi said he will continue cooperating with different countries to help improve livelihoods of his constituents.
“I take this opportunity to thank the two Diplomats who have accepted my request to come and feed the poor,” Amisi said.
Ambassador Khayat said this was his first tour to the constituency and has assessed the needs of the constituents and will compile a list to identify the areas they will offer the help.
“It’s good that through this food donation, we have assessed the needs and through the MP, we will offer scholarships and support the needy access education among other assistance “said Khayat.
Khalifa said through the cooperation with Amisi, his Country will help build modern houses for the poor residents of Kipsongoo slum.
Speaking to Hot News, some residents saw the Embassies move as a Public relations stunt to repair the damaged image of their Countries.
Several domestic workers from Kenya who have worked in Saudi Arabia and UAE have told of horrible stories of how they have been mistreated in the two Countries.
Saudi Arabia’s image has been dented abroad after Saudi Crwon Prince Mohamed Bin Salman allegedly ordered the killing of Journalist Jamal Khashoggi in its Embassy in Turkey.
Last week, the UN released a report linking the Crown Prince to the murder.
Two years ago, Saudi Arabia’s image was dented further after it led an air, water and ground blockade over Qatar.
However, the blockading countries, including the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain and Egypt have failed to achieve any of their objectives.
They initially blamed Qatar for supporting terrorism and cut their diplomatic, economic and social ties with the tiny Gulf state in the hopes that they could make Qatar a Saudi vassal state.
