Operations at the JKIA came to a standstill on Friday evening.
No flights landed nor took off for three hours.
The Kenya Civil Aviation Authority latter in the night issued a statement saying a “a failure of power systems affected its air traffic system equipment at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) that resulted in degraded communication between aircraft and air traffic control (ATC)”.
The authority said the consequence was an increase in separation of aircraft to ensure safety and therefore causing delay in all flights into and out of JKIA.
“The problem has been resolved and movement of aircraft is getting back to normal. KCAA wishes to apologize to all passengers affected by this delay and assure you of continued safety and security of flights in Kenyan Airspace,” said KCAA Director General Captain Gilbert Kibe.
