Nominated MP Maina Kamanda and former Nairobi Gubernatorial candidate Peter Kenneth had it rough while attending Cotu’s prayer day at St Stephens ACK, Jogoo road on Sunday.
The politicians had attended COTU’s prayer day.
Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko condemned Kamanda for grabbing a road reserve in Buruburu and putting up rental houses.
“Kamanda amegrab amejenga manyumba kwa road reserve,” Sonko told worshipers as Kamanda remained speechless.
“When you come here to lecture us about corruption, yet we are fighting corruption and you yourself – you are corrupt. Even this Peter Kenneth, Kenya-Re, he is the one who fleeced it? Maina Kamanda, hasn’t he constructed houses on a road reserve? That’s corruption. Don’t lecture us on corruption yet you are the number one who is corrupt- a number one thief.” Sonko said.
He had been invited by COTU boss Francis Atwoli to address the congregation.
Present during the function which was aired live on several TV stations were former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka and several MP’s.
“Let’s not go far. Corruption is corruption. This Mzee ( Kamanda ) has built on a road reserve. The other one has fleeced Kenya Re. Corruption should not be fought selectively,” Sonko said.
Sonko accused them of engaging in “bad and dirty politics”.
Prior to the 2017 general elections, Kamanda said Sonko cannot govern the City.
Peter Kenneth campaigned against Sonko but lost. He came a distant third after Evans Kidero.
Sonko told the congregation that Kamanda said he Sonko is “a dog (Sonko ni mbwa)”
He added that such politics will not be entertained in Nairobi.
However, in a rejoinder, Kamanda told the Star Newspaper on Sunday evening that he bought the land from a person who was selling it because someone wanted to grab it.
He claimed he used a lawyer to do due diligence before he bought and that Sonko should stop attacking him.
