Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has asked President Uhuru Kenyatta to include Education as one of his big four agendas.
He said President Uhuru Kenyatta’s government should also give Education priority just like the other four agendas.
After being sworn in for his second term in 2017, President Uhuru Kenyatta said his government will give priority to Housing, Manufacturing, Food security and Health.
Speaking in Kitale after issuing bursary cheques from his Foundation and Saboti CDF, Amisi said Education should be included in the president’s agendas.
He asked the president to ensure education is affordable to all Kenyans.
Amisi said a well educated population will contribute to the country’s economic growth.
“We can’t talk of Manufacturing, Health, Food security and proper housing without education”. He said.
The first term lawmaker called on education CS Amina Mohamed to ensure there is a smooth transition from the current 8-4-4 system which is knowledge based to the proposed 2-6-3-3 which is competence based.
“The government should not be too fast to change our education system, let it take time so that views of all professionals and stakeholders are fully accommodated”. He said.
The lawmaker asked the government through TSC to cater for teacher’s demands in order to avert the looming teachers strike.
He said the teachers strike are always demoralizing students leading to poor performances.
Amisi also proposed constitutional amendments to have the position of PM created two deputies and an opposition leader’s office to enhance exclusivity in the government.
The MP said the current system where the winner in the presidential race takes it all is not good for the country.
He also wants MPs to serve as Cabinet secretaries because they understand problems that ordinary Kenyans go through.
