Nairobi MCAs have passed a motion to establish the Nairobi Virtual Artisan Bureau.
They have asked Governor Johnson Sakaja to implement the motion which will vet, license and link artisans to those who require their services.
They said this will generate income as well as create jobs.
The Bureau is an online platform equal to mobile applications used to book vehicles when traveling.
It will enable people under the Jua Kali sector be identified by clients easily.
Moving the motion, Clay City MCA Samora Mwaura said this is an affirmative action by the government.
“There is a need by the county government to promote small, micro and macro enterprises through establishment and licensing of such a platform. This will enable our constituents access artisan services without the struggle of walking distances to look for one,” he said.
Artisans qualified to be members of the platform will be vetted and licensed by the County Government.
Services that will be available in the app include plumbing, electrical, carpentry, welding, painting and construction.
