Drama unfolded on Easter Friday when three teams appeared for one match during the Omwimo Cup soccer tournament semi-finals at Budalangi High School.
Buduvusi were to take on Sisenye FC in the scheduled semi-final encounter, but in an unprecedented move, Igigo who had lost 1-2 to Sisenye in the quarterfinals on Thursday also took to the field.
They claimed that Sisenye fielded ineligible players against them, thus the need to disqualify them.
Organizers said the team played without formal protest.
The situation remained chaotic until match officials decided to call it off.
Unconfirmed reports indicated that Buduvusi had qualified for Saturday’s finals where they met Dyke Rovers who had earlier beaten Milimani 2-0 with goals from Evans Juma and Raphael Omega.
More drama followed in the men’s tug of war semi-finals; Mercenaries had pulled Budo 2-1 but organizers ordered for a replay on Saturday after Budo claimed they were “robbed” of victory.
The tournament is organized by Budalangi Member of the County Assembly Fredrick Musirimba as part of the Culture and sports expo.
