A controversial insurance agent is under scrutiny by Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) and other investigative agencies for commissions they have been receiving from insurance companies in over ten years.
The agent identified as Isaac Wandutu who currently operates under agency name Health Ensure Insurance Agency is reported to be operating as the sole agent for comprehensive medical insurance, work injury benefit for police and prisons, civil servants and some County governments.
He is reported to hold a senior position at Pioneer Insurance company and has twice been summoned to DCI for interrogation along with the MD David Rono.
The insurance companies have been receiving billions of shillings in premiums from the years.
A source at KRA has revealed that the agent has yet to respond to a request for information sought by the taxman way back in January.
The agent operates near the National Bank headquarters along Harambee avenue.
So connected is the insurance agent that they seem to have control over the Insurance Regulatory Authority (IRA), National Hospital Insurance Fund (NHIF) and Treasury.
A spot check on all the awarded insurance tenders for police, civil servants, NYS, Prisons reveal that only the insurance companies he acts as an agent for are awarded the tenders.
Interestingly, the agent was an employee of Pioneer Insurance Company when the insurance company twice won the multibillion police medical insurance tender.
When another group of insurance companies edged out Pioneer insurance from the police tender, it was the same agent who brokered the deal.
Any other agents who has sought to represent competing insurance companies has faced his wrath.
It is yet to be known if the agent has wormed himself into the administration of the newly established Social Health Insurance Fund (SHIF) that has replaced National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF).
