City MCAs have rejected the appointment of Jairus Musumba as the County Secretary.
They said he is incompetent.
Musumba has served in various capacities in the County, including Chief Officer.
He took over from Justus Kathenge and has served for two years in acting capacity after his appointment by the then acting Governor Benson Mutura.
Seconding the motion moved by Makongeni MCA Peter Imwatok, minority leader Antony Kiragu said Musumba is not fit to be the County Secretary.
“It is during his tenure that the county lost the Eastleigh land. He said he was not aware. We want an active county secretary, let the Governor get another person, “he said.
Kilimani MCA Moses Ogeto who doubles up as the majority whip called on the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (ODPP) among other investigative agencies to probe Musumba for violating the Public Service Commission Act by acting for more than six months.
“The candidate snubbed eight invites to shed light on various matters to the public accounts committee. That means there is something he knew but never wanted to disclose to the public,” Ogeto said.
Nominated MCA Emily Odenje was puzzled how the candidate could not answer twenty questions during the vetting and deemed him unfit for the position.
“The nominee lacks suitable academic and professional qualifications to take the office of the county secretary. He has spent his entire time in school and experience in Public Health. It’s the opinion of the committee that such a position should be occupied by a strong person,” he said.
