The purported changes made by the Jubilee Party in the leadership of Nairobi City County Assembly won’t be affected by Speaker Beatrice Elachi.
This is because the Speaker has not received official communication from the Party.
A senior clerical assistant at the Assembly told Hot News.
Since last year in October following the return of Elachi after she had ben bundled out by irate MCAs, the Jubilee side has been wrangling.
The wrangles led to the ouster of Majority leader Abdi Guyo on November 11, 2019.
A letter purportedly written by; Jubilee Party Secretary-General Raphael Tuju dated April 16 says the party consulted on the matter before arriving at the decision to effect the changes.
In the changes, Matopeni MCA Abdi Guyo was reappointed as the majority leader and deputized by Dandora II MCA Peter Wanyoike.
Guyo fell out with Sonko last year.
Long serving Councilor and now Mihang’o MCA Paul Kados has been appointed as the Majority Whip and deputized by South B MCA Waithera Chege.
Dandora III MCA Charles Thuo has been replaced as Majority Leader.
He was deputized by Ziwani MCA Millicent Mugadi.
Others ousted are nominated MCA June Ndegwa who served as the Majority Whip and her deputy California Ward Rep Hassan Abdikadir.
Tuju did not respond to Hot News enquiries on if the letter is genuine or fake.
However, several MCAs have poked holes in the letter.
Instead of addressing the letter to Elachi, the letter has been addressed to Mihango MCA Paul Kados who is the majority whip designate.
However, the letter quotes irrelevant sections while effecting the changes like the Political Parties Act which has nothing to do with the change of leadership.
Governor Sonko, Speaker Elachi and the Clerk of the County Assembly are also copied.
“The changes remain effective on Social Media. We as the Assembly haven’t received the letter from the Party and we cannot act,” said a Clerk Assistant at City Hall.
